Happy Holidays

What's up everyone, it's that time of the year again, people coming together, eating, giving presents that you want...or don't want. I want to give an update for everyone. I'm still working with Advanced Photographic Solutions, on the redesign of their website which compared to their old site, looks great. I've also redesign their logo and stationary which i will show when everything is finalized. Right now, because of the holidays, it's been a little slow business wise, but i'm still working on a couple of projects with a few clients. It gives me a chance anyway to upload some new work on the website and start a marketing campaign for next year.

Deviled Eggs here I come!

What's up everyone, It's that time of the year again, when you meet relatives and friends, catch with old times, and gorge yourself till you can't eat anymore. That's an American Thanksgiving, and I can't wait! Besides my apparent addiction to food, I want give a quick update on projects coming up. First of all Pioneer Credit Company, here in Cleveland, has had a web redesign courtesy of Langfordesign. go to pioneercredit.net. I've gotten some new freelance work designing packaging and catalogs for a trading card company. I've been working on a couple of banners for a basketball team and a university. I'm still working with Advanced Photographic Solutions on their website. At the pace it's going right now, it'll take a good 2-3 months. I've come in contact with a new client called Gaia Sports. I'm designing some apparel for their marketing and sales division. And i'm doing a shirt design for a Swimming team here in Cleveland, TN. So, work has been consistent, but it's slowing down a bit. I would like to start working on my self-promotion and client acquistion for the new year.

I'll try my best to start doing this, but i'm posting a shirt design that i'm working on, and if you could give me a comment on which one you like. It's a two-color design on red shirts. The client wanted a rocker/santa/swimmer girl, it's for a swimming camp. Tell me what you think...

Also, my wife will be graduating from Lee University this fall. It's been hectic and crazy but she finally made it!
Also my kid, Ish, has started his basketball season, he plays for Cleveland High School, in Cleveland, TN. Right now he's averaging 15 ppg. 2 assists and 2 steals a game, on a bad note he's avg. 4 turnovers per game. But he'll cut the turnovers down sooner or later...I hope.

An Old Illustration

Hello, everyone, or anybody that's really not doing nothing for the moment. I'm putting up an old illustration I did for a news paper here in Cleveland, TN. It was an editorial cartoon.

Other news: I'm about to boycott the YMCA for their response to a racially charged act. A lifeguard hung a noose, and it was later reported to a African-American worker there. The Bradley County NAACP is doing a press release today regarding the situation. The YMCA has declined to comment on anything and refused to do a press announcement with the NAACP. To make it even more odd, the actual article was in the back of the paper and pretty well hidden. I have a lot of friends that work and workout there at the Y, of all nationalities, and i will not pay my membership to an organization that will try to sweep this under the rug. I love to play basketball there and workout, but I can find somewhere else to play.

Slave of the Machine

Hello all,
Quick update: I'm working with Advanced Photographic Solutions, in Cleveland, TN doing freelance work. I'm currently redesigning their corporate website as well as redesigning their logo and branding. It's been a fun project and has got me working with Flash, which i strayed from trying to learn.

But let me get back to my post for today, which is called "Slave of the Machine" what i mean by this, is as designers, esp. in the corporate world, how do we get the respect of other peers with longer titles. Does anyone even care what we as educated and trained designers, do on a daily basis, to make sure that a corporation keeps a positive image with it's consumers. Many people would think it's just magic. That designers conjure images, type, ideas, colors, together to make something that gives that the corporation the right brand image towards its audience. How does a corporation value their graphic designers, creative directors, and web designers?

"Well, I could do that!" "I need this website done in 3 days!" "This website isn't worth that much money!"

I'm glad i'm in a situation right now where i am my own boss, and that even though the money isn't as stable as someone with a salaried position, i'm happy creating work, that i like and clients that i love working with everyday. They allow me to do what they pay me to do. To create ideas, to brand their organization or company, and to, in effect, become a business partner and not just a creative slave that they use and reuse without appreciation of what we do.

Take in mind, not all corporations are like that, but there are some that are. I hope that one day that all creatives will have the same respect as the Accoutant, CFO, or CEO. Maybe when that day comes i may decide to go back to a cubicle and work at the computer...or maybe not.

Higher Calling Wrestling website is live

What's up everyone, just wanted everyone to get a heads up on the projects i'm working on right now. First of all, Higher Calling Wrestling Club, based out of Cleveland, TN has their own website now, courtesy of Langfordesign. So if your from the SE Tennessee area, you know how big the sport of wrestling is. so support this wrestling club as they continue to promote the sport of wrestling. I'm also developing a website for Cleveland High's Wrestling Team, which will have ( i hope to have ) 40 years worth of information on there. I'm also working on another media guide for a college wrestling team in Campbellsville, Kentucky and working on some logo concepts for an organization with Lee University. So it has been hectic, i haven't really had time to really sketch or draw recently, so i don't have anything worth putting up. :)
